no kid hungry

overview

At No Kid Hungry, that's our promise. If it sounds simple, that's because it is.That doesn’t mean ending childhood hunger is easy. We know what works, and we’ve made extraordinary progress for kids and families. But the job isn’t done, and won’t be done until we’ve met that promise and every single child in America has the food they need to grow up healthy and strong.

response to Covid-19

Before this crisis, millions of hungry kids relied on school for food. For many, it was the only food they might get on a given day.

With classrooms closed, schools and local nonprofits are struggling to reach kids with the meals they need. And with many parents out of work, more children in the United States may be facing hunger than ever before.

First Responders Children's foundation

overview

First Responders Children’s Foundation (FRCF) provides support to first responders and their families enduring financial hardship due to tragic circumstances.  For nearly 20 years, the Foundation has awarded college scholarships to children who have lost a first responder parent in the line of duty and supported programs operated by first responder organizations whose purpose is to benefit children or the communities in which they live.

response to Covid-19

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation is meeting the needs of first responders on the front lines who are risking their own health in service to others.  FRCF has paid for nearly 13,000 hotel rooms with meal stipends so first responders have not had to go home and potentially expose their families to the virus.  FRCF has also paid for 52 COVID-related funerals for first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.  Since establishing the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund, FRCF has received over 15,000 grant applications from first responder families in financial need from every state in the country in every first responder category.  The current distribution of grant awards is 35% firefighters, EMTs, & paramedics; 28% nurses & medical personnel; 23% police officers & security, and 14% 911 dispatchers & support services.  In addition to grants to individuals, FRCF has distributed more than 565,000 FDA-certified surgical masks to first responder agencies in every state in the country.  And, we continue to address the ongoing, urgent need from small towns to large cities for face shields, hand sanitizer, face masks, and gowns. Donations to FRCF have an immediate, positive, and powerful impact on first responders and the children of those who make sacrifices in service to their fellow citizens.  And, 98 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to our programs to serve those in need.  Thank you so much for your support.

meals on wheels

overview

Meals on Wheels has been guided by a single goal since the first known U.S. delivery by a small group of Philadelphia citizens in 1954 – to support our senior neighbors to extend their independence and health as they age. What started as a compassionate idea has grown into one of the largest and most effective social movements in America, currently helping nearly 2.4 million seniors annually in virtually every community in the country.

response to Covid-19

Meals on Wheels San Diego County: Vulnerable seniors are at the greatest risk amid COVID-19. Local Meals on Wheels programs are on the front lines every day, focused on doing all they can to keep older Americans safe and nourished in communities across the country. Meals on Wheels San Diego County is focused on supporting the independence and well-being of seniors, allowing them to stay in their own homes where they want to be. Meals on Wheels is serving nearly twice as many seniors since the pandemic started and is proud to be able to continue daily delivery of healthy meals and smiles to seniors.

jhpiego

overview

Every day, thousands of women, children and men die of preventable causes: cervical cancer, malaria, HIV, and complications from pregnancy and childbirth. We bring lifesaving care to those who need it the most. We make the world better, today and tomorrow.

response to Covid-19

Jhpiego has worked across Africa and Asia to prevent, identify and respond to the novel coronavirus. Through our efforts, tens of thousands of front line health workers have recieved updated infection prevention and control skills training to provide safe, evidence-based services in response to the pandemic. As critical is the continuation of high-quality, respectful care to pregnant and breastfeeding women and their families while taking precaustions to avoid infection. Jhpiego is working with health systems from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe to ensure these essential services and others are ongoing and we developed operational guidance to assist their efforts. In June, we joined the city of Baltimore to launch a new jobs health project to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our hometown.
